Special Characteristics: 
Relatively small in size (62 cm height and 29 kg weight for females); horns on both sexes, are light and short; ears are pricked; neck is fine and fairly long; rump is higher than withers; coat colour is variable, with black, black-brown, brown-red and white being very common (Wilson, 1991).
Main Location: 
Distribution limited to Malawi, but more common in the south than in the north of the country; the estimated population was 950,000 in 1988; the climate is semi-arid to subhumid (in uplands); the management system is agricultural (Wilson, 1991).
